As stated in a previous post, I had been forced to put photography on the backburner due advancing my education. After only a couple of months post-graduation, I received a text from a young lady who was graduating from my Alma Mater. She was the daughter of an old high school classmate of mine who was referred by my sister. She was a lovely young lady.
After I took her photos, a friend of hers reached out to me. She told me that she had seen her friend’s photos, and she simply loved them. I took her photos a couple of weeks later. Her family made everything so fun! She was a bit shy at first, but by the time we were done she was not camera shy at all.
A week later, a couple of close friends asked me to take their kids’ prom sendoffs. Both of their sons played little league football with my son and since I had basically watched them grow up; it was an honor to do so. From missing teeth and squeaky voices to full mustaches and sounding like Barry White, uhm…what is going on here? LOL!!
I also had the pleasure of shooting the daughter of my “play cousin” – IYKYK! I met his daughter when she was about eight years old. Ironically one of my good friends was also her dance teacher. She saw me on a picture with her and excitedly asked how she knew me. Small world! This client was one who stated that she never likes her pictures, but she loved her graduation portraits.
Lastly, two of the most special and sentimental “photoshoots” {and I use that term loosely} I had this season was shooting my son’s prom and graduation photos.
For those who know my family and I personally, you already know the struggles I had with taking my son’s pictures. I used to laugh and shake my head at the young men who gave their moms a hard time when taking graduation photos. They just DID NOT want to cooperate. It was no different with my child! He made sure I experienced the same frustration! LOL!
Forgive me as I go into Mama Bear mode for a second. FIRST OF ALL (lol), he didn’t want ME to take pictures of him with the car I PAID FOR. He wanted to meet up with his friends because THEY had someone who was already taking pictures and videos of them. Ask me if I’ve seen a finished product yet. Oh ok…. The next day we were supposed to take his cap and gown photos because his hair would still look nice. Ask me if that happened…Sorrows…Prayers! A whole month later, I was finally able to take his graduation photos and all it took was some fussing and some tears! Granted my son hates taking pictures, but never did I think it would be this hard!
Whew! Regroup…
I hope you enjoy my “coming out of retirement” photos. They were all a pleasure to capture…even my child!
Moms, if you have a son who hates taking pics, send him to me! I’m sure we can both pin him down! ;-)
